Artist Statement

In an unpredictable world, escapism is more than a retreat—it is a way of preserving the inner life. Growing up in a conservative society shaped by ongoing conflict, I learned early to construct imagined worlds as a means of survival and expression. That impulse continues to shape my painting today.

My work explores the fragile construction of identity through encounters with something larger than ourselves. Whether my figures stand before vast landscapes, classical paintings, or the gaze of the viewer, I return to the quiet moment when observation becomes transformation. Rather than depicting dramatic events, I paint moments of stillness in which memory, beauty, and imagination reshape our understanding of who we are.

Across intimate portraits, large-scale landscapes, and dialogues with art history, the settings change, but the underlying question remains the same: how do we discover ourselves through what we choose to look at? The recurring figures in my paintings inhabit spaces where nature, culture, and personal experience converge, inviting viewers to enter these moments of reflection alongside them.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, I am influenced by the photographic sensibility of Ryan McGinley and Rineke Dijkstra, alongside the figurative language of Norbert Bisky. Through painting, I seek to create images that slow perception and offer a space where beauty becomes a way of thinking, and looking becomes a means of understanding ourselves.
